The Military-Affiliated Student Center is here to support you in pursuing academic excellence. Our programs and services are available to all military-affiliated students (veterans, reservists, ROTC, National Guard, and dependents/spouses). For more information about these resources or to begin utilizing these services, please email our center at email@example.com. To schedule an appointment, please select a time that works for you through Allison's Personal Availability Link on Navigate. Below are some student testimonials of how academic coaching has helped them be successful.
Academic Coaching-- Meet one-on-one with our Academic Success & Transition Graduate Assistant to help work on your academic, studying, and organizational skills while at Iowa State! Academic coaching is a great resource for students who need help creating a structured plan for their academics while holding themselves accountable to a plan that works best for the student. Whether you are being proactive or need to get back on track, coaching can help, and it is a free service for our students! If your schedule does not align with the Academic Success Graduate Student at the MASC, the Academic Success Center also provides academic coaching services for students.
Academic workshops-- Each semester, we will offer an Academic Skills Workshop and Math Bootcamp. These workshops will cover time management skills, study habits, exam prep, and other educational topics that interest students. The Math Bootcamps are before the Fall semester and give students an opportunity to brush up on their math skills.
Math Tutoring-- The MASC works with the Math department to bring tutoring to our students. Weekly math tutoring will be held at the Memorial Lutheran Church at every Thursday at 4 pm and is completely free for military affiliated students!
Tutor Funding-- We never want finances to get in the way of your academic success. If you would like to use the Academic Success Center's tutoring services but you are not in a financial position to pay for tutoring, the MASC can help cover that cost. We provide our military-affiliated students with financial coverage for up to 2 classes per semester for every tutoring session they need! Go to the Academic Success Center's website, locate the Tutoring page, follow the prompts, and choose "MASC Funding" in the funding section. Upon submission, keep an eye out for an email from the MASC Academic Success & Transition Graduate Student, as you will need to meet with them before getting approval for the tutor requests. The sooner you can have that meeting, the sooner you can reap the benefits of tutoring!
Academic Coaching Testimonials
"The Academic Coaches at the Military-Affiliated Student Center are very patient, kind, and really care. Each meeting I came out feeling more prepared for what was ahead, and I made a lot of ground on life skills like calendaring and to-do lists. Overall I have become a more organized and efficient person thanks to the wonderful peeps here."
"I am a much better student because I got coaching through the MASC. I also think that there should be a way so that students don't think or be ashamed for getting help."
"I will always be so grateful for the staff because they believed in me more than anyone else during these past semesters and provided several resources that helped me with a tough semester during 2021. When I thought I was not made for college, they changed my thinking and instilled confidence in me. Now I am a more confident person and very secure of who I am and what I can do!"
