Applying to Iowa State

All veteran, military personnel, and their dependents must complete an application for admissions and meet the requirements outlined for either transfer or freshman students.

If you have not completed at least 24 graded academic credits, you are required to submit the following items:

  • High school transcript
  • ACT or SAT scores
  • Military transcript (JST or CCAF)
  • Transcripts from all colleges attended (if applicable)

Dedicated certifying officials in the Registrar's office are available to assist ISU's veteran and military-affiliated students with questions about GI Bill benefits.

In-State Tuition, Scholarships and Aid

  • In-state tuition eligibility: Contact the Registrar's office for in-state tuition eligibility. Changes to this federal policy can happen frequently. The Registrar's certifying officials will have the most updated information.
  • FAFSA and scholarships: Even if you are eligible to use the GI Bill, complete the free FAFSA form to qualify for scholarships and other aid. Be sure to apply by the priority deadline to be considered for all of the scholarships and aid you are eligible for, but you can apply after the deadline.
  • External scholarships: Scholarships are offered through non-profit organizations for military-affiliated and veteran students.
